  • FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help are courageous. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, we will help you or your child identify strengths, weaknesses and goals so we can implement a plan and techniques to support your journey in a positive way. Counseling can be a daunting thought but working collaboratively in a supportive environment will aid in your success as an individual or family unit.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is in the professional training and experience a counselor possesses so that you can attain positive movement in your journey. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills and strategies, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you achieve your goals.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective for some but not everyone. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling, but medicine alone will not solve your problems. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your coping skills and strengths so that you can accomplish your personal goals and optimum functioning.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different concerns and goals for counseling, our approach will vary depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs. There are many different styles and theories we can utilize to maximize our work together.

    How long will it take?

Unfortunately, there is no simple answer for this. Counseling can be both challenging and rewarding and everyone’s circumstances are unique, so the length of time can vary.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

Your are here which shows your desire for change. Your active participation and dedication will be critical to our work together.
